In today's society, especially in schools, pupils are frequently exposed to emotional violence, and mostly to one of the major forms of the violence - the bullying. A study accomplished in 2002 by the World Health Organization confirmed that even 70 percent of pupils experience emotional violence in Lithuanian schools and only about 20 percent in Czech Republic and Sweden. In most cases, the pupils suffer the emotional violence from other pupils in adolescence, and, of course, in some cases, from teachers as well. It is noted that such conduct with pupils is detrimental to the psychological climate of a school, the pupils themselves, their well-being, and the relationships between teachers and parents. The subject of the accomplished research is the roles of teenagers in situations of emotional violence at school. The research aimed to reveal the roles of the teenagers of fifth and eighth classes in various situations of emotional violence at school. 79 pupils, among them 34 pupils from fifth and 45 pupils from eighth classes, participated in the research. The research was conducted in 2010-2011. In order to reveal the phenomenon of the emotional violence among the pupils of the fifth and eighth classes in schools and their roles in these situations of violence, a survey by a questionnaire was chosen as the main method of research. The questionnaire consists of three blocks: In the first block, we seek to ascertain demographic data, in the second - how do the teenagers assess safety at school and in the third - what are the roles of the teenagers in situations of emotional violence. Upon the research, it emerged that the pupils of fifth and eighth classes were inclined to commit acts of emotional violence and performed certain roles in these situations of violence. The obtained results revealed that the pupils of fifth class often plaid the role of a victim, an offender and a victim's counsel - when tried to help the victim to defend him/herself, and the pupils of the eighth class generally performed the roles of an offender, a victim and a neutral observer - when observed what was happening but did nothing particular. The obtained results confirm that the elder teenagers are more indifferent than the younger teenagers in situations of emotional abuse. It also clarified that the pupils experiencing emotional violence were not interested to seek for help. It can be argued that distrust in adults among the pupils is prevailing, thus teachers and parents need to pay attention as that encumbers application of appropriate preventive measures to provide assistance both to victims and the very abusers and reduce the number of victims and offenders at schools. The structure of the paper consists of an introduction, 2 chapters, conclusions, recommendations, a list references, and 1 appendix. The paper contains 3 tables and 14 figures.
