The present master thesis analyses the elements of severe health impairment defined in Article 135 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Lithuania. In order to achieve a comprehensive analysis of the chosen topic, the paper first off all reveals a general concept of crimes against human health in the context of both international and national law. The attention is also devoted to the health impairment conception considering its historical development and the analysis of presently existing health impairment notion and its types. Accordingly, to reveal all constituent elements of the severe health impairment, it was divided into three main parts. The first part contains separate discussions about the object of severe health impairment, the victim and the objective side, which includes a criminal offence, health harm and the causal relationship between them. The second section performs the examination of the subject and the subjective side. The third part discusses in detail the features of qualification of severe health impairment by increasing the level of liability. In order to highlight the regulation of severe health impairment in different countries, it is also given a comparative survey of the peculiarities of criminal legal regulation in France, Poland and Ukraine.
