Improving Access to Care through Web Based Appointment

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

Abstract

The purpose of this CNL project is to re-evaluate the utilization and management of the web book appointment system; thereby, improving the self-awareness of self-scheduling non-urgent appointment visits for the healthy population. This project focuses on the college health population, as it improve patient access and develop a change in practice within the health center setting that delivers a safe, effective, efficient, and timely patient care. The project focuses on the CNL curriculum of Informatics and Healthcare Technology, under the role of an Outcomes Manager. A microsystem assessment revealed ineffectiveness and inefficiency of the current organizational framework in utilizing the web book appointment system. Statistical data gathered through web booked appointment from October 2015 thru March 2016 accounts for 1611. In response to the implementation process, a comparison was made from October 2016 thru March 2017 and there was an improvement with web booked appointments totaling 2526. In addition, open-access scheduling of same-day appointments provided better service for patients, decreased staff workload for staffs, and reduced occurrence of no-shows. Future recommendation is to continue to monitor the process by re-examining the delivery of care and adopt any updates as healthcare continues to change as the system expands its access to care.
