Whimsyworld

Whimsyworld is a middle-grade novel about a small-town girl, Thea, who sees wonder in the world that many can no longer see. This novel, written in first person, explores themes of familial psychology (especially the mother-daughter relationship), problems with hero's journey and chosen one tropes, the nature of truth, coming of age, and the importance of experiencing wonder as part of the human experience. The narrative follows the conflict of Thea trying to show her mom that she is not making up the magical creatures she sees in the world. The tension becomes even more important as she meets Igneous Flinder and steals his magical, talking book that teaches her how to better interact with the magical world all around her. Hearkening back to fairytale stories of old, Whimsyworld hopes to reignite the wonder of reading a fantasy story for the first time, while adding contemporary themes and problems, exploring the need for humans to see the wonder in the world even when the mundane is pushing them to ignore it.
