Production of Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes by Chemical Vapor Deposition: Design and Scale Up
Abstract
dc:description.abstractCarbon nanotubes are a new form of carbon-based materials that are fabricated using several distinct techniques. Carbon nanotubes exhibit exceptional mechanical properties that are ideal for reinforced composites, nanoelectronic structures, and sensor devices. In the present research, single-walled carbon nanotubes are formed by chemical vapor deposition in a fluidized bed at various temperatures and gas flow rates with transition metal catalysts. Two processes to produce 10,000 tons per year of single-walled carbon nanotubes are proposed. Process simulations and cost analyses are included in the evaluation of each process design.
