The Experiences of Community Members living in Rural Communities Impacted by Mining Operations: The Case of Silver City, Nevada

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

This study examines experiences of rural community members in Silver City, Nevada impacted by mining activities through a community development framework. The study included qualitative data collected through semi-structured interviews with nine Silver City residents and seeks to examine their experiences with health impacts related to mining activities. Furthermore, the study asks study participants how mining companies can operate to better accommodate their needs, what their expectations are of local government, and if they believe mining companies can operate successfully in rural community contexts while support the tenants of health community development.
