Images of the United States in Contemporary Narratives of Quebec and the Francophone Caribbean

Abstract

dc:description

In my fifth chapter, I explore the theme of alienation in the works of Jean-Claude Charles, focusing on the narrators' interiorization of dominant American discourses that devalue the Haitian subject as an inferior Other. My final section suggests some conclusions and recommendations regarding Francophone American approaches to individual and national identity.
