In the coherent femministically engage poetics of the writer Dacia Maraini's poetry represents a model for freedom of thought, which has allowed her to knowingly renew her poetic voice throughout the years. Expressing herself through verses, the idealism of her strong ideological involvement (which is evident in her theatrical and narrative works) clashes with the lyrical realism of an everyday world populated by feelings, memories, people and objects which are dear to her, creating an unusual harmony between these two distant worlds. In the brevity and polisemanticity of her verses her profound intellectual rigor unites with a vivid and rebellious sensitivity, revealing a grand pioneering project which is reflected in a revolutionary language of feminine sensuality and metamorphosis. Reinterpreting myths and beliefs from the past, Dacia Maraini undertakes a tenacious search for alternative models of feminine identity which have been written in the plots of official history in the depths of personal and collective memory. These models, which are incorporated in autobiographical recounts of maternal vocation, come from this poet (playing a motherly role to other women) as challenges to the present and as a warning of a more just and equal future for women.
