The successful expression of the manA gene from Thermoanaerobacterium polysaccharolyticum in C. beijerinckii NCIMB 8052 and the sol operon of C. acetobutylicum DSM 792 in C. beijerinckii SA-2 when using pYL102E indicates that pYL102E can be used as an E. coli-C beijerinckii shuttle vector. This observation indicates the utility of CAK1-derived vectors for genetic engineering the solventogenic clostridia in order to improve the utilization of more complex substrates and for the production of specific end-products.
