Perceptions of Help -Givers Among Three National Groups
Abstract
dc:descriptionResults indicated considerable overlap across cultures in the categories of people considered suitable help-givers. However, their relative prominence and desired attribute profile varied by nationality/culture. While psychotherapists were perceived as belonging to the professional sector of help-givers, their position relative to other help-givers varied somewhat in each of the three groups. The findings also suggested that the some of the features of the counseling profession (in terms of structure, format, and ethics) may be incongruent with the structure and values of non-Western cultures.
