Instrumentation for Acquisition of Mechanical Evoked Potentials From the Hard Palate.

A recording of the electrical activity of the brain in response to various types of stimulation, e.g., electrical, mechanical, optical, acoustical, etc. is called an electric response (ER). The ER is composed of a series of evoked potentials (EPs) which are generated by various structures of the nervous system. ER recording has become a well-established laboratory technique which has found practical applications in clinical diagnosis, e.g., the audiometric testing of individuals who cannot be readily tested by behavioral techniques (Jerger, Hayes, & Jordan, 1980; Weber, 1979). However, the primary application of ERs remains as a research tool.
