Gravity Induced Stresses in a Shrink-Fit Disk.

Abstract

Elasticity methods offer many opportunities to investigate the stresses in a system. However, only a very small percentage of design or analysis problems can be treated by application of analytical elasticity techniques. This, of course, is due to mathematical difficulties associated with the solution of the governing equations subject to prescribed boundary conditions. Several techniques of an approximate nature have been developed for the treatment of more complex problems, among them being finite difference techniques and finite element approaches.
