Abstract

Frequently the need to identify or exclude an individual arises in criminal cases. Historically, fingerprinting has been a universally acceptable method of individual identification. Unfortunately, fingerprints are not always found at the crime scene ; therefore, other methods for identification of an individual are needed. One of these is the typing of body fluids, particularly blood, for genetic markers that may distinguish one individual from another.
