dc:description.abstract

The Independent Presbyterian Church of Birmingham, Alabama, has received, in the course of its 70-year history, a good deal of attention and admiration for its ministries in the social services and the fine arts. Its purpose when it was founded in 1915 has been described by its founding minister, Henry Morris Edmonds, as "the enfranchisement of the whole being in its search for God."
