Measurement of the Reaction pp->pK+Lambda and its Analysis with a new Analysis Program: typeCase
Abstract
A dedicated high statistics experiment with a beam momentum of 3.081 GeV/c in proton-proton-collisions has been performed with the COSY-TOF-Detector for the search for the pentaquark particle Theta+. Only an upper limit for the total cross-section could be extracted however the gained data could be used for the analysis of the reaction pp->pK+Lambda since this reaction was enriched in the data as the reaction pp->pKsSigma+. In the scope of this work an analysis program has been designed and developed that has been used to analyse these data. A resolution of 6MeV (FWHM) in the invartiant masses could be achieved. The total cross-section was determined to 21.1+-0.1_{stat}+-2.0_{sys} µb. With these exclusive measurements differential cross-sections could be produced. Both agree in essence with previous publications. Due to the excellent resolution the structure of the Sigma-Cusp became visible in the invariant mass spectrum of M_{pLambda}. For the first time ever differential distributions for the Sigma-Cusp could be produced due to the high statistics. Its total cross-section was determined to 1.2+-0.1_{stat} µb. The spectra could be well described with model-calculations of N*-resonances (S11, P11, P31) including a simple calculation for the Sigma-Cusp.
