Todor Popov: A Historiography and A Conductor's Analysis of His Choral Cycles
Abstract
dc:description.abstract<p>The purpose of this document is to introduce the choral community of the United States to the choral music of one of Bulgaria's most celebrated composers of the twentieth century, Todor Popov, through his choral cycles. The author reviewed English and Bulgarian sources on the composer, interviewed his daughter, and analyzed the two choral cycles composed by Popov: Sofia and Esenni Motivi. Included are a brief history of Bulgarian choral music, a biography of Popov, an overview of his choral music, and a conductor's analysis of both choral cycles</p>
