Predictors of North Dakota and South Dakota Nurses' Decisions to Receive Influenza Vaccinations

<p>This study examined the predictors of nurses' decisions to receive influenza vaccinations. The Triandis model of interpersonal behavior (1977) was used to construct an instrument called the Registered Nurses Influenza Vaccination Questionnaire (RNIVQ).A mail survey approach was used to distribute the RNIVQ to 201 randomly selected nurses who were currently licensed in the states of North Dakota and South Dakota following Dillman's (2007) tailored design method, yielding an 80% response rate.<br> Multiple regression showed habit and behavioral intention were significant determinants of the probability of a nurse receiving an influenza vaccination {p = .000). Positive correlations were found between all of the Triandis model variables and the probability of a nurse receiving an influenza vaccination, including facilitating conditions (p = .001), as well as habit, intention, cognitive factors, affective factors, and social factors (p = .000.<br> Amongall Triandismodel variables, study results showed that facilitating conditions had the potential for influence on all variables, leading to the probability of a nurse receiving an influenza vaccination. These findings have several important implications for future use to create strategies to improve influenza vaccination rates among nurses.</p>
