Breakdown Risk in Persons with Tuberculosis in a Northern Plains Indian Tribe

<p>Tuberculosis (TB) remains a serious disease on Indian Reservations in the United States. Tuberculosis is classified as Class I, II, III, IV, and V. Class I TB status means that the individual has no disease. Class n means an individual is infected with tuberculosis but does not have the active disease and is not infectious. Class m status means the individual currently has active tuberculosis. Class IV means the individual has no current disease but does have a history of previous episode(s) of the disease. Class V status means TB is suspect and the diagnosis is pending.<br> The purpose of this study was to examine the records of all Class II, HI, IV, and V TB patients on an Indian Reservation in the upper midwest. A chart review was performed in order to determine the prevalence of untreated or incompletely treated high risk patients in the following categories: end-stage renal disease, chronic renal failure, diabetes, and alcohol abuse.</p>
