Women’s queer identities in French literature at the turn of the nineteenth century

This thesis will analyse, for the first time, the literary lives and creative output of four queer women living and writing in France at the fin de siècle – Rachilde, Liane de Pougy, Natalie Clifford Barney and Armen Ohanian. Spanning the period from 1884 through to 1931, this thesis will examine distinct expressions of queerness in the work of four women writers whose texts have never been studied in relation to each other, or under the critical framework of queerness, until now.<br/>
