Cultural intimacies of Irish country music: dancing, performance, and aesthetics

This thesis identifies and examines the music and dance phenomenon of Irish Country music, specifically in the Western counties of Ulster. Using ethnographic data it considers the processes allowing an individual to take part, the experiences of the professionals involved, and the aesthetics of the scene as portrayed in televisual and social media, and analyses how the scene exhibits and continually constructs cultural intimacies. The participants of the scene construct a community within which they practice interpersonal communication and perform identity through recognising themes of the music itself and the performance of gender through dance.<br/>
