dc:descriptionA comprehensive history of how the Isle of Man, a small self-governing common law jurisdiction in the middle of the Irish sea, shaped its own independent legal profession, whilst being less than 30 miles from three developed legal professions: England, Ireland and Scotland. It charts how Manx lawyers developed from a small group of self-taught men into a unique legal well-trained profession. It traces the inception of Manx Advocates from the late 18th Century to the middle of the 19th Century
