Curved envelope of a building is one of the major issues discuss in recent years. Designers can easily draw a freeform curved surface using 3D software like Rhino. The challenge that follows is to break down digital complex surface into buildable panels. With the help of the new generation of architectural software, designers can produce a series of transformations in design practice. Scripting is commonly used in dealing with the complex surfaces. However, Scripting needs sophisticated knowledge and a lot of time for learning. This Dissertation will suggest a parametric approach to the workflow of breaking down the building envelope into panels in the preliminary design stage without sophisticated scripting. Four precedent studies were studied and a Rhino Grasshopper experimental workflow has been developed in the later part of the thesis. By using dataflow modeling, it aims to explore different paneling strategies which could be useful for different design purposes.
