A study of turbulent flow with the effect of vegetation

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

In this study, turbulent flow with the effect of vegetation is studied. The governing equations for turbulent flow with the effect of vegetation are derived. The detail of deriving governing equations is represented and the distinctiveness from the previous researches is that the influence of vegetation on flow is based on the integrated interaction with a group of cylinders, but not based on the interaction with individual cylinders. Virtual mass force exerting on flow by vegetation is introduced into governing equations so that not only steady but also unsteady turbulent flow can be solved. Based on the proposed governing equations, a numerical model, called 3D I?-coordinate LES model, is developed subsequently. Good agreements with experimental data indicate that the proposed model is valid and has the capacity of evaluating water slope in open channel as flow goes through vegetative domain.
