Custom residential housing construction : a case study.

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

This report is a synopsis of research conducted with Mickey Smith Professional Builders, Inc. (a successful custom home construction firm in Gainesville, Florida). The goal was to broaden my technical engineering knowledge and gain practical construction experience. The majority of time was spent developing a critical path construction schedule for a typical home. Although the schedule took a tremendous amount of time to develop, the results comprise only a few pages (Table 5.1 and Appendices A through D). To make the report more comprehensive, I covered the custom home construction business in general and provided insight into the steps required to build a custom home. Certain topics were brief or left out entirely to protect proprietary knowledge inherent to Mr. Smith's operation. To address this issue, I drafted the letter found in Section 6. 1.
