Abstract
dc:description.abstractThe primary aim of the present paper is to introduce the well-known problems raised by W. Burnside in 1902 and their development. These problems, known as the Burnside problems, are regarded as most famous and difficult in mathematical areas. Since Zelmanov was awarded the Fields Medal in 1994 mainly because of his work on the Restricted Burnside Problem, there has been increasing interest in understanding or studying Burnside Problems. In this paper, formulation of various Burnside Problems will be given, development and progress on the problems will be presented. A counter-example to the General Burnside Problem is also given, using graph theory. Significant progress made recently on the Restricted Burnside problem is also surveyed. We conclude by mentioning some open problems.
