47 Via Ricasoli, Florence, an English Translation of the Novel By Thierry Laget

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

"Fallen on a field of honor in August 1914 near Charleroi, Prosper Poppet entered literary history alongside Péguy and Alain-Fournier. The foremost representative of the symbolist movement, he is the author of a single novel, La Rosée, which appeared just a few days before the start of World War I." (fictional entry in Petit Larousse Illustré) March 1986: Thomas is a real enthusiast of this twentieth century classic, but the critical research he undertakes takes an unexpected turn. In an old bookstore on the Via Ricasoli in Florence, Italy, Thomas discovers an unknown poem of Poppet's, printed in 1924, with a dedication autographed by the author . . . It is there, too, that he meets Martha and begins an odyssey through a maze of contradictions and missteps with tragic results. A literary novel by a budding French author and Proust expert steeped in the stream-of-consciousness style, this work adds a twist. The novel in question, La Rosée, by Prosper Poppet, is the narrator.
