Abstract
dc:description.abstractThis thesis is a design exploration of interior vertical space and light in the context of a university architectural library. More specifically, a program for Massachusetts Institute of Technology' s Rotch Library will be applied to the now vacant Building 11, former Medical Building as a context for the exploration. Organizational issues will be developed to provide a context for the exploration. Solution for the library with respect to the reuse of this building is dependent upon vertical continuity of space and the appropriate architectural expression of place.
