Abstract
dc:description.abstractThe neglect of the study of Maltese social life together with a personal leaning. towards the subject, have been the main causes for my choice of Zurrieq,1750 - 1801, as the subject of my thesis. The period 1750 - 1801 witnessed a doub1.e change of regimes in the Island, and was certainly a most difficult one. To study the life in a village like Żurrieq in an eventful era such as this, would therefore be very interesting. Inevitably, in the course of this research, I was faced with several difficulties. Much time was lost in fruitless search in manuscripts which yielded very little material on my subject. But many a time I was rewarded with valuable and interesting matter. Due to intensive research in the Mdina Archives, I was left with little time at my disposal to search in depth in the other archives.
