Abstract

dc:description

In this study we describe the results of 46 percutaneous transthoracic needle aspiration biopsies under ultrasound guidance in patients with thoracic lesions. The patients were divided in four groups accourding to localization of the lesion. Our study showed the following: - The sensitivity of the method was 95,5% and the specificity 100%. - There were no complications except in one case. - Most of the biopsied lesions proved to be malignant. - This method was most efficacious for lesions attached to thoracic wall. - In comparison with the other radiological methods this was more advantageous for apical lesions. - We regard the jugular fossa approach as the best route for lesions located in the upper mediastinum. - With this method we are able to assess the thoracic lesion from different approaching angles. - There is also no exposure of the patient to ionizing radiation.
