dc:descriptionTHE PURPOSE OF THIS STUDY WAS THE EFFECT OF OVERHEATING 60 C, 120 C AND PROLONGED HEATING FOR 30", ABOVE THE MANUFACTURERS INSTRUCTIONS, VERSUS BENCH-COOLING AND QUENCHING ON THE MECHANICAL PROPERTIES AND CORROSION RESISTANCE OF A NI-CR DENTAL ALLOY. THE MODULUS OF ELASTICITY, THE YIELD STRENGTH (0,2%), THE ULTIMATE TENSILE STRENGTH, THE PERCENTAGE ELONGATION AND THE VHN HARDNESS WERE TESTED.EVALUATION OF THE CORROSION RESISTANCE OF THE ALLOY WAS PERFORMED BY THE OLDHAM-MANSFELD'S METHOD, MEASURING THE I CORR. THE RESULTS WERE CORRELATED WITH A CONTROL GROUP, WHICH PREPARED ACCORDING TO THE MANUFACTURERS REQUIREMENTS . IN GENERAL, THE INCREASE OF CASTING TEMPERATURE FOR 60 AND 120 C AS WELL AS THE PROLONGED HEATING FOR 30" DOESN'T CAUSE SIGNIFICANT CHANGES ON THE MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF THE ALLOY, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE HARDNESS WHICH DEMONSTRATED STATISTICALLY SIGNIFICANT CHANGES. HOWEVER, THE GRADUAL INCREASE OF THE CASTING TEMPERATURE CAUSES A PROPORTIONAL DECREASE TO THE CORROSION RESISTANCE OF THE ALLOY, WHICH IS MORE SIGNIFICANT AFTER THE PROLONGED HEATING. BECAUSE BIOCOMPATIBILITY OF NI-CR ALLOYS IS A CRITICAL PROPERTY, IT IS VERY OBVIOUS THAT THE PARAMETER OF THE CORRECT CASTING TEMPERATURE IS VERY IMPORTANT.
