ΣΥΜΒΟΛΗ ΣΤΗ ΜΕΛΕΤΗ ΤΗΣ ΓΡΑΜΜΙΚΗΣ ΣΥΣΤΟΛΗΣ ΤΩΝ ΑΛΓΙΝΙΚΩΝ ΑΠΟΤΥΠΩΤΙΚΩΝ ΥΛΙΚΩΝ
Abstract
dc:descriptionTHE AIM OF THIS STUDY IS TO INVESTIGATE THE LINEAR SHRINKAGE OF ALGINATE IMPRESSION MATERIALS. 17 HYDROCOLLOID ALGINATES, 3 SILICONISED ALGINATES AND VOCOLOIDWERE STUDIED. THE MEASUREMENTS WERE MADE WITH A LINEAR VERNIER MICROSCOPE CAPABLE OF MEASURING TO 0,01 MM THE INITIAL MEASUREMENT WAS MADE 10 MIN FROM THE START OF MIXING. FURTHER STUDIES WERE TAKEN AT 30 MIN, 1,2,3 AND 24 HOURS FROM THE START OF MIXING. 12 SPECIMENS WERE MADE FOR EACH OF THE ABOVE IMPRESSION MATERIALS. 6 OF THEM WERE STORED 100% HUMIDITY AND 6 OF THEM WERE LEFT IN AIR OF A RELATIVE HUMIDITY (50-10)% AT ROOM TEMPERATURE OF 21-1 C. ALL ALGINATES SHOWED LINEAR SHRINKAGE AS TIME PASSED AFTER MIXING. THE CONTRACTION IS NOTICEABLE 30 MIN FROM THE START OF MIXING EITHER THE SPECIMENS WERE STORED AT 100% HUMIDITY OR LEFT IN AIR. 2% CONTRACTION IN AN HOUR AND 4,5% IN TWO HOURS FROM THE START OF MIXING ARE GREAT DIMENSIONAL CHANGES. FOR SHORT PERIODS AN ATMOSPHERE OF 100% HUMIDITY IN A CLOSED CONTAINER IS A MORE STANDARISED ENVIRONMENT FOR THE ALGINATE IMPRESSIONS. THE SILICONISED ALGINATES AND VOCOLOID SHOWED EITHER IN AIR OR IN 100% HUMIDITY LINEAR SHRINKAGE LOWER THAN CONVENTIONAL ALGINATE HYDROCOLLOIDS.
