Abstract

This novel takes place in Washington, DC. It follows five housemates, all in their early twenties to early thirties and from slightly divergent backgrounds, as they try to make a path forward after the death of their landlord. The matter is further complicated by rising property costs, gentrification, suppressed romantic feelings, a pregnant raccoon living in the attic, and the landlord’s daughter, who appears on the property multiple times, making only vague gestures towards her deep ambivalence about the house.
