One Lonely Line

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

The crippling loneliness that stems from infertility is perhaps one of its more painful side effects. One Lonely Line is a collection of linked short stories from varying perspectives and points-of-view that examine the inability to achieve or carry a traditional pregnancy. The protagonists hail from many walks of life and deal with various facets of infertility: miscarriage, fertility treatments, surrogacy, adoption, and the decision to live childfree. A wide spectrum of grief is presented-emotions range from despair and jealousy to anger and disbelief. While the characters and circumstances differ, the pain and alienation of the condition are present in each piece, providing a sort of morbid kinship.
