Abstract
dc:description.abstract
The manuscript, Saudade, showcases the creative process, inspiration, and product from this poet’s creative writing. The critical introduction of the thesis aims to discuss various creative writing techniques utilized by the author from the inspiration of various authors including Bruce Weigl, Walt Whitman, Anne Carson, Rita Dove, Kim Addonizio, Dorianne Laux, among others. These authors not only formulate poetry with universal themes, realistic narratives, teeth-grinding imagery, or song-filled musicality, but they exhibit various literary devices and poetry techniques. They bring forth specific moments in time and connect ideas to readers, which transcend time or space.

Saudade, aims to connect these moments in time that people experience and examine the raw instances that create our lives all while exhibiting high levels of poetry craft and literary devices. The combination of imagery, musicality, narrative, and universal themes has created a manuscript that delves deep into life’s moments – both magical and ordinary, positive and negative, beautiful and ugly – and emerges in realism and truth that we all experience in life and create us as people.
