The Four Last Judgment Plays in The Corpus Christi Cycles

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

The Last Judgment plays of the four Corpus Christi cycles, the Chester, York, the Towneley-Wakefield, and the Ludus Coventriae-Hegge, deal with The coming of Christ to judge mankind at the end of time. In this study of the four Last Judgment plays, I want to compare the four plays, to look at their Possible sources, and finally to consider each play in itself, particularly in relation to the various aspects of the Last Judgment. I shall begin by glancing briefly at the subject of the Last Judgment and medieval man’s interest in it.
