An Anlaysis of Wilfrid Scawen Blunt's Griselda: A Society Novel in Verse

<p>An attempt has been made in the following pages to discuss some aspects in the development of the Verse Novel as used by authors of the nineteenth century in England. Griselda, the example studied, comes from the pen of Wilfrid Scawen Blunt, an English poet who contained within himself the germ of much of the greatness which made the age so rich in poetry and so prolific in prose. Blunt’s strong political leanings may have dwarfed his poetical growth; but they could never dim the ardor of his glowing personality. His works quickly reveal the man,.... his complex nature, his interesting theories on the vital ques­tions of his time, his widespread contacts. No less do they dis­close the channels and tendencies of nineteenth century thought, and the literary student is well rewarded for perusing much that Blunt has written and much that has been written about him.</p>
