Abstract
dc:description.abstract
This manuscript is a collection of poems written or revised during the two years of the inaugural Dominican University of California Master of Fine Arts program in creative writing. The poems are mostly free verse with a few formal or hybrid forms and represent my quest to combine narrative with lyric elements to reflect the life of a physician poet looking back on forty years of medical practice. The natural world provides reflection and consolation to the world of the hospital and medical office. The dual vision of the doctor observer and the woman inhabiting a fallible body and sometimes fragile relationships is a narrative thread in this collection.
