A Grant Proposal for an Art Therapy Program for Young Girls Focusing on INcreasing Self-Esteem and Reducing the Development of Eating Disorders
Abstract
dc:description.abstract<p>This grant proposal outlines an art therapy program, sponsored by the Community Health Awareness Council (CHAC), for adolescent girls in the elementary and middle schools of Mountain View, Los Altos, and Los Alto Hills, California. Funding in the amount of $3 [sic] is requested in order to conduct this eight-week art therapy program to help build the self-esteem and reduce the development of eating disordered thoughts and behaviors among adolescent girls.</p> <p>The proposed program will support two groups of 8-12 girls who will meet for eight consecutive weeks, and then three additional times at three, six, and twelve months follow-up intervals. The groups will meet for one and one half-hours for eight consecutive weeks. During these meetings, the girls will work together and individually exploring their uniqueness, emotions, and thoughts through art activities as well as group discussions. The program will provide a supportive environment where the girls can explore thoughts and emotions about their changing bodies, and learn to express these thoughts and emotions.</p>
