Saint Ambrose and the Temporal Powers as Shown in His Letters

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

From the beginnings of Christianity there have been disputes between temporal and spiritual powers. This thesis attempts to give a brief outline in Chapter Two of the position of the Church from her origin until the fourth century. The remaining six chapters show how St. Ambrose in the fourth century determined the role the Christian Emperor was to play within the Church.
