Synthesis of 2-Hydroxy-(p-Methoxyphenyl )-Bicyclo-(3.3.1)-Nonan-6,9-Dione

The purpose of this thesis is to give the improved and complete methods for the synthesis of 2-hydroxy-{p-methoxyphenyl)-bicyclo-(3.3.1)-nonan-6,9- dione, (V). Augustine (1) and Hall (4) have prepared (V) before. However, further research was necessary to isolate some of the intermediates in order to prove the structure of (V).
