Ethnographic Narrative Project: An Educator’s Journey

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

This is an ethnographic narrative that details my journey to becoming an educator. Beginning with my own educational experiences and how I decided this was the path for me. During this first year I was able to conduct a field study with three focus students from my classroom. Conducting student interviews, home visits, classroom observations, and speaking with other teachers I was able to collect information and form an action plan to differentiate my instruction for each of these focus students. To better serve my students, I was able to talk with other faculty, administrators, parents, and learn more about our school that is serving our students. Taking this beyond the classroom I was able to research the community in which my students reside. All of this data gave me the ability to understand how home, community, and school impact my student’s educational experiences. By self-reflecting on my teaching over the course of this year I was able to see my growth as an educator and my areas where I can focus and grow.
