Criteria, Anthology, and Explication of Poetry for First Grade
Abstract
dc:description.abstractIn recognition of this multi-faceted problem of selecting poems to use with first grade, it is the purpose of this study (1) to establish criteria of evaluation and selection, relating that criteria to the bases of poetry criticism, (2) using that criteria, to compile an anthology for use with first grade, and (3) to explicate each of the selected poems in such a manner as to help the teacher better understand and appreciate the particular poetic qualities of that poem, and hence be more effective in using that poem in the classroom.
