Treatise on the 1980 JCT standard form of building contract

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

This document provides a detailed study of the Joint Contracts Tribunal (JCT) Standard Form of Building Contract (1980 edition). As the JCT Standard Form of Building Contract is a product of the development of time, a brief history of its evolution is included to assist in understanding the concept of speciality contracts. The Contract is studied from a number of major view points, dealing with explanations and interpretations, of the more important financial and procedural matters raised within the conditions of contract. A section of the text is devoted to the study and comparison of the JCT 1980 with the recently published A.C.A. Form of Building Agreement 1982, which provides constructive criticism. A section of the text is devoted to the study of complementary forms which may be used with the contract. The difficulty in assessing the success or otherwise of a standard form of contract is recognised, and no measurement of success is attempted.
