Traces of a Spatial Relic: Encountering the Observation Bunker of Heuqueville

The subject of this thesis belongs to the chain of bunkers lining the Atlantic beaches of Normandy, France; specifically, an Observation Bunker located at the outermost edge of the town of Heuqueville. The act of discovering, exploring, and dwelling on the fortification in its current state was recreated and isolated in a digital experience, that when used in addition to traditional methods of architectural communication and representation, strengthens the comprehension of a site by reuniting the physical with the ethereal. This thesis aims to exemplify how the immaterial qualities of a site and space can be communicated through the medium of virtual storytelling, analyzes the attitudes surrounding the Heuqueville Observation bunker, and will identify a methodology outlining the transition from the analytical to the experiential through this dissemination.
