Um bairro no mangue: condições de vida no bairro do baralho – Bayeux – PB.

The objective of this research is to historically rescue the Baralho Community’s occupational process and make a situational analysis, highlighting the use and occupation of the soil and economic activities as well as to verify the deficiencies resulted from a disorderly urban occupation, especially in mangrove areas elapsed by the lack of planning from the authorities. The Baralho Community is located at the east side of Bayeux town, having as its principle guiding the Liberdade Avenue, as known as "dead stretch " due to the rise of the New Liberdade Avenue, which is a non used route. Confined to the North with the mangrove, to the West with the district of São Bento, João Pessoa in the East and the Sanhauá River in the South. It's still a neighborhood composed by residents who live on activities related to fishing, as well as by migrants from other regions. However, with the rising of industries in its outskirts, as well as the advance of urban sprawl, physical, environmental and social problems are evidently harming the population. For this research it was necessary to bring together a mix of information to understand the dynamics of the issue as well as other methods such as site visits to diagnose potential problems and informal conversations with residents, contributing to the collection of complementary information research.
