Contribuição ao modelo de gestão dos resíduos sólidos urbanos do Município de Mulungu-PB.

The solid waste management is a deadlock widespread across the national territory. The issue at Mulungu does not distinguish significantly from all Brazilian cities. This work proposes to characterize, diagnose, evaluate and suggest avenues for alleviating or solving the problem. The methodology required the review of legislation and solid waste management and geography, collection of public documents and maps of urban and municipal (political) to indicate areas of environmental degradation (dumps) and propose system for collecting solid waste the most appropriate to the town. Forty three questionnaires were applied with the population, representing a statistically mulunguense population,considering an error amount of 10%. To finish the work, visits to city, state and federal organs were paid as well as field studies and photographic records of the object of study. The results indicate that the authorities are not prepared or interested in solving the issue, revealing the surprise and the insufficient capacity to manage the waste produced. This actually worsens the absence of affirmative participation of the community. Short, medium and long term actions, considering the current city budget were suggested to solve the problem.
