Abstract
dc:description.abstractThe mundializantes market contingencies, consumer demands and the increasing sophistication of products have been a key factor of growth and their livelihood in various industries. Within this reality, the overall footwear industry has been seeking to adapt quickly, and in this scenario, the productive sector in particular, the search for the most appropriate production system to this reality is becoming a key factor in the success or failure of various footwear industries. Varieties of products, coupled with greater demands quality, functionality, low cost and longevity, potentiate the need of a correct choice of the industry with respect to the most suitable production system for the organization given time. This study aimed, through a qualitative research, track equipment and technologies embedded in the operational plans of the largest Footwear Industries in the state of Paraiba in the last 20 years – 1995/2015, showing gains / possible outcomes after the addition of new production systems and how these systems have helped companies surveyed to stay and grow in an increasingly competitive market at national and international level. Footwear industries were surveyed in João Pessoa, Santa Rita, Bayeux, Campina Grande and Patos, as well as additional information of fostering Government Organs of the Footwear Industry in Paraiba, SENAI, Syndicated of Paraiba Industries and FIEP- Federation of Industries of the State of Paraiba. The study found that all the major companies know well and apply a production system, the midsize companies know the production systems and try to apply, but there are many restrictions in this application and small businesses, mostly, not only apply as practically unaware of what are the production systems and their applications. There were technologies inserts in medium and large industries of footwear, which significantly increased its production volumes and quality products, but the same did not happen in small firms, which had their volumes stabilized and even reduced in the last 20 years.
