POTENCIAL TERAPÊUTICO DA CREOLINA® NA REVERSÃO DOS QUADROS CAUSADOS POR ENVENENAMENTO DE Bothrops jararaca EM RATOS

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

The ophidian accidents represent a serious public health problem in Brazil, as well as economic damages in the production systems. The components of the Bothrops genus are considered the most responsible (about 90% of the cases). Currently the only treatment recommended by the responsible organs is the use of antiophidic serum, which is not effective in remission of local symptomatology, and presents difficulties in obtaining and cost of the commercial product. In this scope, alternatives to this therapy are necessary. Several substances have been gaining notoriety in popular medicine as antiophidics, among them the Creolina®. Therefore, this work aims to evaluate the Creolina®’s therapeutic potential, by three access routes, for the effects induced by the Bothrops jararaca venom. In male Wistar rats, all groups (A, B, C e D) received venom inoculated intramuscularly (3.2 mg/kg). Creolina® (0.1 ml) was administered orally, topically and intramuscularly in the "B", "C" and "D" groups, respectively. The antiophidic activity of this compound was evaluated by means of clinical evaluation at each hour and laboratory eight hours after inoculation. Animals that had contact with Creolina® orally and topically developed local symptoms and laboratory findings similar to the control group wich received only the venom, while the animals inoculated with Creolina® venom intramuscularly did not show signs characteristic of the venom’s local action (necrosis, hemorrhage) and presented hematological parameters within normality for the species. These results indicate a possible antiophidic effect of Creolina® when used intramuscularly, evidenced by the neutralizing effect of the venom effects mainly at the inoculation site. These findings, along with more studies, support the justification for the use of this commercial product in traditional medicine.
