Abstract
dc:description.abstractThe Breast Cancer (BC) is a result of uncontrolled growth of cells with invasive potential, which occurs from genetic, hereditary or acquired changes. It is regarded as one of the leading causes of death of women in the world and promotes profound impact on the psycho-emotional and social conditions, among others, affecting their daily lives and their occupational roles. On the above the present study aims to understanding the impact late diagnosis of breast cancer in occupational roles in affected women; identify changes in the daily lives of these people; and what support networks that they have used; besides, understand how women perceive late diagnosis of breast cancer. It is a qualitative study of a case study approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the University Hospital Lauro Wanderley under protocol number: 39152414.9.0000.5183. Participated as research subjects two women who received late diagnosis of breast cancer. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with a previous script. The results were treated by analysis of discourse and in the light of theoretical references, divided into categories. On respect for human dignity the identity of the subjects were preserved using fictitious names. We note with this research that the trajectory of the disease is different for every woman, according to the occupational roles that it played with the activities performed in their daily lives, and also with the influence of their socio-cultural context and their networks of support. It is possible, from the phenomena identified, understand how the implications of the disease will interfere with everyday and occupational roles that woman, as well as the meanings that women attribute the disease. We identified some notes with regard to both physical and psychosocial limitations encountered by them. So, understanding these factors enables the implementation of strategies that drive the adaptation of women to this new reality, besides contributing to adaptation and integration into roles that they will be resources to better quality of life.
