Abstract
dc:description.abstractThis monograph's objective is to analyze the link demonstrated by Ribeiro (2012) between the current focus of Brazil to defend the South Atlantic and the brazilian geopolitical thought about the sea. According to the author, the South Atlantic' strategic as a important region to Brazil's interests is related to previous studies of this country's leading intellectuals, specifically geopolitical thinkers. Therefore, it seeks to situate the theoretical support of the Sea's National Defense Policy, through the review about the strategic concept of "Amazônia Azul", in the Brazilian Geopolitical tradition about the sea, with the analysis of the works of the main geopolitical thinkers in the twentieth century. This paper aims to answer the following research question: the strategic concept of "Amazônia Azul" shows continuity or rupture with the Brazilian maritime geopolitical thinking? The used methodology was qualitative, bibliographic and documentary nature, based on the literature about Brazilian geopolitical and documents about the strategic concept of "Amazônia Azul". In conclusion, the strategic concept of "Amazônia Azul" comes in continuity with the Brazilian geopolitical thinking, specifically regarding the studies of Meira Mattos in the 1970s.
